G is for Setting Goals
Right now you probably feel like you are in a long, dark tunnel with no end in sight. There are things you can do to help yourself get through this difficult period of your life.
One of the things that will help you immediately is setting goals for yourself. Take a deep breath and begin to decide what tasks you need to accomplish and what time frame is needed to achieve them. You will feel much more in control once you have a plan and begin checking things off of your list.
It is hard to handle all the different problems that seem to come at you one after another. Sometimes it becomes difficult to even know exactly where you should be focusing your attention and energy.
Again, take a deep breath and think about what is happening around you and what would make you feel better. Are your kids having a hard time in school? Are you so depressed that you are having a hard time functioning? Do you need to put the house on the market? If so, do you need to clear out all of the clutter?
This list can become overwhelming. It is not fun putting out one fire and then moving right on to the next, day after day. It’d be nice to just snap our fingers and everything would be done, but we all know it’s not that easy.
“Where there is a will, there is a way.”
One great way is to operate on two levels. Look at one level to tackle tasks that require your immediate attention. Use the second to allow you to slowly work towards reaching your goals with well thought out actions.
To help you handle the different levels, think about your support system. This situation has probably gone beyond the capability of your normal support structure. Commit to a plan of action to get whatever help you need. There are an enormous amount of resources out there and you do not need money to get access to them. But what you do need is to have a goal of what you want to achieve and then figure out what help you need to achieve it.
Remember giving up is not allowed nor a good option. Set a short term goal plan and make sure you include a few happy and exciting long term goals to help you get started.
