W is for Why It's Wise to Improve your LinkedIn Profile.

To be successful in today’s world you will need to make social media a business priority. Embrace the thriving power that technology and social media provide and let it work for you and not against you.

The social network LinkedIn has emerged as a key player for content marketing strategies in today’s business campaigns. This platform is being used to connect with other business professionals, share information on products and services and help employers view potential candidates for employment.

However, many struggle with using LinkedIn effectively. One of the most important tips to follow is — BE PROACTIVE!   Here are a few wise tips to help you make the most of your LinkedIn profile.

Your profile — This is your first impression, but it can also be your last. It is most important to use a “professional” photo.  Your profile should describe your experience and skills in a concise and engaging manner. Be sure to include keywords that will help people find you.

LinkedIn URL — Customize your URL to: www.LinkedIn.com/in/your name.  Click on “edit profile”, go to “Privacy & Settings”, under Settings – click on Edit your public profile, then customize your current URL. You may also create a profile badge that you can add to your blog, online resume or website.

Groups — Join groups related to your industry and interests, and engage in professional conversation.  Post articles, blog content, ask questions, and offer your knowledge. This interaction will provide you with an opportunity to make new connections.

Companies — You can follow companies in your field and receive up to date information about them. You’ll receive information like new products, press releases, company announcements, job postings, and other news.

Business Page — This will help ensure your brand has a presence. Use relevant keywords and photos, and post updates regularly. Share you blog, website, and company highlights.

Volunteer — List your volunteer experience. Include causes that are close to your heart and reveal a more personal, devoted side of you.

Update Skills — When you learn a new skill in your area of expertise make sure to include it.  Let everyone know you are continually growing and improving your skills.

Change Order of Entries — LinkedIn’s profile edits allows you to click on and drag each section of entries in this section. You may consider bumping up your most appealing entries to the top of the page.

Post Updates Weekly — Share your newfound knowledge with your connections after reading an amazing or informative article. Place yourself as a knowledgeable expert in your field. Post regular informative weekly updates pertaining to your field. This highly increases your chances of having your profile viewed.

Connect, Connect And Connect – Update your followers! More connections can lead to better success in your social media campaign. Consider using a personal note when sending a request to connect. A sincere invitation never goes out of style and it helps promote a meaningful connection.

Having an effective LinkedIn profile by following these simple steps can help you not only stay with the rush of young professionals, but exceed professional and networking expectations. Most importantly, letting your personality, experience, and style shine through your profile in a professional manner will give you the edge you need.
